In many parts of the country, residents are wondering when the harsh winter weather is going to begin. CNN reports that January of 2011 was the warmest in over 100 years, with record high temperatures set in several U.S. cities.
The lack of wintry precipitation is no doubt a money saver for managers of large facilities, with no need for snow or ice removal. It could, however, present a danger - if owners are neglecting facility condition software due to the assumption that no danger remains.. Every winter can pose threats to a building in almost every region.
"Unless your building is abandoned and you do not care what happens to it, or you live in southern Florida or the southwest desert, winterizing is recommended," facilities expert Kevin Ernster told Buildings Magazine.
Today's Facility Manager recently recommended a long list of steps building owners need to take in the winter months to keep their investments safe. Awareness of conditions is critical, meaning that a condition report through facility management software is the first step. Taking stock of preparedness for any emergency may seem odd when February feels like spring, but the season still holds real risks.
